Measuring Outcomes in Facebook Marketing: IAB Event Recap

Mingling at IAB Social

It was an honour and a thrill to sponsor last night’s IABUK’s Social Media Event – How to keep the party going – held at the LBi offices on Brick Lane.

The event had a great turnout and featured some incredible talks by folks from Torchbox, LinkedIn, Bing and Skive to name a few. Our own Mark Rogers was also speaking on Measuring Outcomes in Facebook Marketing, where our Squishable made an appearance, and was even instagrammed by LBi’s Sinead Doyle (thanks, Sinead!).

Our slides from the evening are available on Slideshare and we hope to see the presentations from other speakers making the rounds, as everyone had a unique but utterly fascinating story to tell about brand loyalty, consumer social buying trends, regulations and the future of social media. The case studies were top notch.

Some of our favourite moments include:

  • Skive’s Tom Ollerton‘s case study about Levi’s “ass cam”, a genius campaign hallmarked by videos taken by cameras attached to the back pockets of girls’ Levi’s jeans. Of course, the real genius was Tom’s decision to Google Search “ass cam” mid-presentation – you can imagine how that went.
  • Havas’ Amy Kean introduced us to the concept of “malling” (as in “shopping mall”), where the mall acts as transmitter of culture, and how brands can project identity through shopping. Choice quote: “Don’t just give people value; give people value they can’t get elsewhere.”
  • Bing’s Dave Coplin gave an energetic talk about influence, relevancy and the move from relevance to trust in search results. “This the time to let go and let your brand leave the nest.”
  • LinkedIn’s Jonathan Bradford presented an interesting case study on how Phillips is using LinkedIn groups. Top tips: have a long term focus; develop a value proposition; invest resources.

The event ended with a great after party, headlined by the band Dog Is Dead from Nottingham. Plus plenty of drinks to keep the party going – after all, that was the theme of the event, and IAB succeeded in true form. Thanks for a great night!
